The Kutubdia Island LNG Terminal is a strategic land-based energy facility located in the naturally deep waters of the Bay of Bengal. The terminal site features natural depths of 20 to 27 meters, providing safe navigation and berthing for Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs) and Q-max vessels without the need for extensive dredging. Its location outside the congested main shipping channels of Chittagong and Matarbari ensures enhanced operational safety and efficiency.

The project is developed in two major phases: Phase 1 establishes an initial receiving, storage, and regasification capacity of 3.75 MTPA (500 MMscfd), while Phase 2 plans to double this capacity to 7.5 MTPA (1000 MMscfd). The facility utilizes a Fixed-Berth Offshore Terminal connected via a cryogenic subsea pipeline that transports liquid LNG to the onshore storage and regasification units.

Regasified LNG is delivered to the national grid through a dedicated 12km vapor pipeline connector, linking the terminal directly to the Petrobangla/GTCL national gas pipeline grid at major valve stations. Managed by Beringia Energy Global with key investment from partners like HYFI Corp, this $1.4 billion USD infrastructure project is a cornerstone of Bangladesh’s long-term energy security strategy.
